The Hartt School
Music Production and Technology
Music production & technology applicants are required to interview with a faculty member of the department. This is the chance for the applicant to meet face to face with a member of the MPT faculty to discuss the program and a career in music production. It is also a chance for the faculty member to learn more about the applicant’s musical and technical background as well as his/her motivation for entering the field. While significant, previous recording experience is not necessary, some evidence of research and awareness of the field is expected.
Music production & technology is a Bachelor of Music program, and therefore requires an interview and an instrumental or vocal audition. The audition ensures that the applicant is at the level sufficient to fulfill the performing ensemble requirement of Hartt’s MPT curriculum. The audition must be in one of the following categories: classical, jazz, or commercial music, each having its own specific guidelines.
In order to schedule an interview and audition, the University of Hartford application as well as the Hartt supplemental application must be completed.
